Banter Bit Ep. 4: Streamer U, What We're Playing & Where We've Been

We are officially back after a two-week hiatus! While I was living it up on vacation in the UK, Rushka was holding down the fort at home. We’ve got a massive backlog of gaming news, epic streamer news, and local event highlights to catch up on.
Grab a snack, and let’s dive into the highlights of Episode 4.
🎓 Kai Cenat’s Streamer University is Next Level
If you haven't been keeping up with the streaming world, Kai Cenat recently launched Streamer University, and the scale of this project is absolutely mind-blowing.
The Setup: They booked out an entire literal campus, complete with fully decked-out dorm rooms, assigned roommates, and a staff comprised entirely of actual content creators (like Valkyrae, Ludwig, and a puzzle-building grandma named ijustlovepuzzles as the librarian!).
Insane Sponsorships: Students were handed free phones and Dell laptops. Fortnite is heavily involved, hiding physical "sprites" around campus that students can find to win a $7,500 brand deal and their own custom in-game cosmetic. Oh, and did we mention a rapper was giving away a Chrome Hearts Lamborghini?
The Curriculum: This isn't just for show. The students are getting actual cinematography, filmography, and acting classes to step up their game.
Where is the SA Representation? We couldn't help but wonder why more South African or African creators didn't apply. We have such an entertaining live-streaming scene (especially those who migrated from TikTok Live to Twitch). Maybe next year we'll see some local creators causing absolute chaos on campus!
Of the internationals partaking, we'll be keeping our eyes on some personal favourites, namely YsabellaGrace & KieraPlease.
👑 Volcano Princess & Pretty Trading Cards
While browsing the news, a wild title caught my eye: Volcano Princess, an "overwhelmingly positive" daughter-raising simulator RPG by Egg Hatcher, is getting a fully voiced Complete Edition on PS5, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
What is it? You play a widowed father raising the future monarch of a kingdom while human-demon tensions escalate. It boasts over 50 different endings and has a staggering 44,000+ reviews on Steam.
We also touched on our shared love for collecting pretty trading cards—whether it’s the Pokemon TCG, Legends of Runeterra, or physical card packs like Riftbound (even if we don't actually do any combat and just want to admire the art!).
🍳 Winning "Team Turmeric" & Local Activations
We (Rushka) have actually been leaving the house lately! Here are the local events we hit up:
🎮 MTN Shift Gaming
A great community gaming activation taking place at various malls all over the country - and some during school holidays. It was packed with familiar faces, new lifestyle influencers, and free gaming activities for the kids. Check out more about the Table Bay Mall activation, which Rushka attended, here.
🍲 Wayne Chang’s ClubX Cover Reveal
Rushka also attended a TikTok and ClubX Magazine ghost kitchen collaboration to celebrate local foodie creator Wayne Chang's gorgeous new magazine cover.
Attendees were split into teams, handed a box of mystery groceries, and told to cook. The Result? She, Kelly, and Lucian Albertyn (producer of the Espresso Show) formed Team Turmeric, whipped up a Cape Malay Curry, and walked away winners for the evening.
We also established that we might be a little too vain for publications and wouldn't let the world stop hearing about it if we got a magazine cover this chic.
🕹️ What We're Playing (And Building) Lately
We’ve been spending our peaceful downtime diving back into some gaming favourites:
Baldur's Gate 3 (Super Modded): I have been running a heavily modded playthrough to bring back an old D&D Earth Genasi character from my varsity days. Rushka called me out as being a nerd for that one and there was a slight mix-up where she thought my character was called "Jonasi". Those who know, know.
Mortal Kombat 1: Picked up during the Steam Summer Sales and not for competitive play, but just to enjoy the highly cinematic story mode (the stories are never as intricate as we'd like them to be) and master some sick combos.
PC Building Simulator (and IRL): After dismantling and cleaning my PC in real life to fix a faulty drive, I realised I actually just really love disassembling and rebuilding PCs. PC Building Simulator was the natural answer to this itch.
Cat Mail Co.: The ultimate cozy game where Rushka and Elby sort, weigh, and stamp packages while casually debating global politics. You can catch their streams on either of their channels, Fridays at 6PM SAST.
