If you do a Google search for "Black Female South African Streamer", it is only recently that one of the top results is a person that fits that demographic.
After years of fighting for a seat at a table that seemingly doesn't want us, Rushka and myself (Androva) created a platform to increase visibility for femmes of colour within the gaming and streaming scenes, primarily within South Africa but with the vision of doing the same throughout the African continent.
An issue faced by people of colour, specifically femmes of colour within the local community, is under-representation. As is seen in the rest of the world, the majority demographic within the gaming scene here in South Africa is white males.

In a population where 90%+ of the people are people of colour, there is an obvious misrepresentation within the gaming scene.
This bias seeps into mainstream media where we see gamers of colour rarely being represented when it comes to campaigns targeted towards gamers, tech-heads and geeks.
By increasing visibility of femmes of colour within the gaming scene we hope to:
Decrease the occurrence of racism and racist microaggressions within the scene
Overcome misrepresentation
Teach brands, our white counterparts and our viewers how to best support us
We look forward to seeing the change that has ever so slowly been taking place within the scene continue into the future and hopefully we can be an additional step in creating a safe space where those like us can feel safe and more importantly, seen.
